Vibration Measurement

Vibration Measuring Devices

Instruments that measure vibration are also called vibrometers. And generally vibration measuring devices measure or sense vibration. Vibration is the normal oscillatory motion of a body and basically this motion is harmonic or complex. A vibration measuring instrument typically measures the particle or body amplitude, frequency, and phase.

Vibration

Vibration is the motion of a body, and motion is a constant like a vine as a dynamic imbalance. And commonly known as vibration is a state of body which moves back and forth, right and left, up and down and randomly in frequency.

Types of vibration measurement

Basically there are two types of vibration measurement first contact type and second non contact type

1. Contact Type

Contact type vibration measuring instrument means direct contact with moving or vibrating body and simple contact type instruments are compact in size. An example of a contact type instrument is an accelerometer.

2. Non-Contact Type

A non-contact type vibration measuring instrument does not come into direct contact with a moving or vibrating body and is easily used in places where it is too difficult to use a contact type instrument to measure vibration. And generally non-contact devices are available in smaller sizes

Introduction to Vibration Measuring Instruments

Basically, vibration measuring devices or instruments are used to measure the acceleration or motion of a vibrating body. And generally vibration measuring instruments consist of mass, spring etc. and are also known as seismometers. Vibrometers and accelerometers are commonly used instruments for measuring vibration

Vibrometer

Vibrometers are used to measure vibrations. A vibrometer is also known as a seismometer and generally this instrument measures the displacement of a moving or vibrating body. Vibrometers are generally designed to measure low natural frequencies. Basically vibrometer is also called low frequency transducer because vibrometer uses low natural frequency.

Accelerometer

Accelerometers are used to measure vibrations and accelerometers normally measure the acceleration of a moving or vibrating body. And accelerometers are designed to measure high natural frequencies. Accelerometers are also called high frequency transducers because accelerometers use high natural frequencies.

  3. An instrument for measuring acceleration
  4. A frequency measuring instrument

1. A Displacement Measuring Instrument

A displacement measuring instrument is also known as a vibrometer. Vibrometers are used to measure vibrations. A vibrometer is also known as a seismometer and is generally a device that measures the displacement of a moving or vibrating body. Vibrometers are generally designed to measure low natural frequencies. Basically vibrometer is also called low frequency transducer because vibrometer uses low natural frequency.

2. A Velocity Measuring Instrument

A device that measures speed is also called a velometer or speedometer . A velometer is used to measure vibration and to measure the speed of a moving body or a vibrating body.

3. An Instrument For Measuring Acceleration

A device that measures acceleration is also known as an accelerometer. Accelerometers are used to measure vibrations and accelerometers typically measure the acceleration of a moving or vibrating body. And accelerometers are designed to measure high natural frequencies. Accelerometers are also called high frequency transducers because accelerometers use high natural frequencies.

4. A frequency measuring instrument

Frequency measuring instrument basically measures frequency and frequency measuring instrument based on resonance principle. There are three types of frequency measuring instrument first is single read frequency measuring instrument, second frequency measuring instrument is multi read frequency measuring instrument and third is stroboscope.
