Drum Switch
Basically a drum switch is a manual switch. And this switch has a lever or handle and this handle or lever is operated manually. And the drum switch has three steps to control the current and these three steps are forward, closed and reverse as follows. This switch is used to control the direction of motor rotation.
What Is A Drum Switch?
A drum switch is a manual switch and can manually reverse the direction in which the motor is rotating. The contacts of the switch are manually opened and closed to move the drum switch from the closed position to the forward or reverse position.
Basically a drum switch is a manual switch that allows the rotation of the motor to be reversed or forwarded using a handle or lever. The handle or lever of this switch is pushed by hand to reverse or forward from the off position.
Introduction To Drum Switch
A drum switch is a manual switch and has a manual handle or lever to control the position of the switch and the direction of the motor like reverse or forward. Basically these switch contacts are manually opened or closed by moving the switch handle or lever and this handle or lever movement is left or right.
Basically this switch is used to control the direction of motor rotation. This direction is reverse or forward. This switch is widely used in industrial as well as domestic appliances. And this switch changes the direction of rotation of all motors like forward and reverse.
Drum Switch Position
Basically the drum switch has three positions first is reverse, second is off and third is forward.
1. Reverse Position
Basically in this condition the motor rotates in reverse direction. A drum switch has six terminals and in the reverse position these terminals are connected such that the first terminal is connected to the second terminal, the third terminal is connected to the fourth terminal and the fifth terminal is connected to the sixth terminal.
2. Off Position
Basically in this position the motor is stopped or off. And in this case the terminals are not connected to each other.
3. Forward Position
Basically in this position the motor rotates in the forward direction. And the position of the terminals in this position is that the first terminal is connected to the third terminal, the second terminal is connected to the fourth terminal and the fifth terminal is connected to the sixth terminal.

Working Of Drum Switch
Basically the drum switch works like reverse, off and forward position. Reverse position Basically in this condition the motor rotates in reverse direction. Example Of A Drum Switch
1. A drum switch is connected to a single phase AC motor
An AC single-phase motor connected to a drum switch is shown in figure. And the start winding is connected to terminals 3 and 2. Because the start winding must be reversed to run the motor in reverse direction.
2. A drum switch is connected to a three phase AC motor
A three-phase motor connected to a drum switch is shown in figure. And with this switch, any two lines of the motor can be switched so the direction of rotation of the motor will change.
3. A drum switch is connected to a DC motor
A DC motor connected to a drum switch is shown in figure. and the direction of current through the field is reversed to drive the motor in the opposite direction.
Application Of Drum Switch
