For intermittent demand, where the compressor would waste power if run continuously, the capacity can be controlled by starting and stopping the motor.
This can be done manually or by the use of pressure switches. Typical switch settings are on at 140 PSIG (1 MPa), off at 175 PSIG (1.2 MPa).
